Consistent Training and Practice Lead to Success

The ultimate goal is to continue your progress at home with a home program.

To get started:  All Schroth Treatment Plans are a minimum of 3 times per week for 6 weeks.

At 6 weeks, your coordination with 3D breathing in the foundation exercise determines your treatment session frequency after the initial 6 weeks.

From experience, success requires frequent physical therapy to learn to apply 3D breathing to the foundation exercises.  Treatment frequency and duration less than 3 times per week for 6 weeks results in good technique during treatment sessions with the hands on training with Dr Takashima, but frustration and less effective exercises at home.  The treatment frequency of 3 times per week for 6 weeks also provides the treatment needed to take your progress from the therapy world to the real world of your posture and scoliosis improvement.

"Success takes an investment in time, dedication, and sacrifice.

This is true education.  It's a process."

Mental Fatigue / Body Fatigue / Mind and Body Brain Freeze

Treatment session are 45 - 60 minutes.  When requested an appropriate, longer sessions area available.   The exercises are difficult and require a lot of mental focus and body coordination.  45 - 60 minute session is typically the optimal duration of each session.  However, there are times when longer sessions are ideal to get the most out of each session.  If you can maintain your focus and body coordination, longer sessions of 90 - 120 minutes are available. Longer session does not decrease the frequency of 3 times per week.

The Power of Understanding Scoliosis

Throughout your treatment, time is spent on understanding your scoliosis.  The hard part is to take that knowledge and understand how it applies to you.  Looking in the mirror and knowing where your spine curves, rotates, and in which direction enables you to understand and perform the exercises with proper technique.

You will have simple homework assignments which include labeling your scoliosis and exercise details on pictures taken during your session.  This helps strengthen your understanding and helps me help you.

"When you journal you are giving yourself a voice, allowing yourself to be heard while listening."

Journaling Can Change the Outcome

"Scoliosis changes your body, the diagnosis of scoliosis changes your inner self. "

Dr Karen Takashima

Coping with the changes of your spine, body, and mind can wear you down.  Envisioning your future can become blurry, setting goals confusing, and coping with day to day life frustrating.

Lashing out through words and actions can become your means of expressing how you feel.  Refusing to do your exercises, wear your brace, or becoming stubborn with others may be your way of coping.  Dr Takashima will help you learn how to process the changes that come with scoliosis, giving you new skills to add to your toolbox and help you navigate through this time of change.  Through discussions during your treatment sessions and journal assignments help you discover and understand how you feel and forge a new path to a happier and healthier you.

You will be given your own journal to help you discover and explore your feelings about your changing world and then take the first step to making change.
